In a city where creativity thrives and innovation is celebrated, one entrepreneur is making waves with his unique approach to fashion, branding, and creative problem-solving. Meet Ayodele Samuel, an architect and the visionary behind CHIMP (Creative Humans Innovate Masterpieces).
In a recent interview, Ayodele shared insights into his background and the journey that led to the establishment of CHIMP. “I grew up in the Titus family in Alagbado, Lagos, Nigeria. It was a challenging environment that pushed me to strive for better, but not a toxic one. I followed my father’s footsteps to avoid mistakes,” Ayodele remarked, reflecting on his formative years.
When asked about the inspiration behind his entrepreneurial spirit, Ayodele credited his parents. “My mother is a fashion designer, and my father is a framer and clearing agent. Watching them work hard every morning motivated me then, and it still motivates me now,” he shared.
CHIMP, founded in 2020, has quickly risen to prominence as a seven-time award-winning brand. The company specializes in fashion, branding, and providing creative solutions to problems. Ayodele proudly mentioned collaborations with music superstars like Rema, Ruger, and Badboytimz and being a TEDx speaker in 2021.
Reflecting on his journey, Ayodele highlighted a significant moment that signaled the potential success of CHIMP. “The moment I was called to speak on a TEDx stage was my ‘a-ha’ moment. It made me realize the impact and potential of what we were building,” he recalled.
Ayodele draws inspiration from his parents’ journey, starting from humble beginnings. “They started from nothing and are doing fine for themselves. That resilience and determination inspire me every day,” he explained when asked about his hidden inspiration sources.
Motivated by the challenges of entrepreneurship, Ayodele emphasized how it has transformed him into a more responsible individual. “It made me sit up and more responsible,” he remarked. However, Ayodele’s journey from architecture to the helm of CHIMP wasn’t a solo endeavor. Behind every successful entrepreneur often stands a mentor who imparts wisdom and guidance. In Ayodele’s case, that mentor is none other than an industry veteran whose influence has been instrumental in shaping CHIMP’s trajectory.
“My mentor, Alhaji Ibrahim Egungbogun played a crucial role in steering me in the right direction. His insights, experiences, and encouragement have been invaluable,” Ayodele shared, giving credit to the guiding force that has contributed to CHIMP’s rapid ascent in the creative industry.
CHIMP has received several accolades, including the SSA Best Entrepreneur awards for 2021, 2022, and 2023, as well as the Bells University Best Entrepreneur awards for 2021 and 2023.
As for the future, Ayodele remains steadfast in his commitment to CHIMP’s mission. “We, as a branding company, find solutions to problems through branding and connect you to a broader market,” he affirmed.
In closing, Ayodele was asked if there were anything he would change about his entrepreneurial journey. His response was resolute: “I would not change my journey. It made me who I am, and I appreciate every step of it.” With CHIMP’s innovative spirit and Ayodele’s unwavering determination, the brand continues to leave an indelible mark on the creative landscape, promising even more exciting ventures in the years to come.
