Eleven personnel from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) were involved in a tragic accident a few kilometres from Kano on Sunday while returning to Abuja from an official assignment.
NIS, in a statement on Monday by its spokesperson, Adedotun Aridegbe, said four of the personnel lost their lives in the accident, and seven others sustained various degrees of injuries.
The commission stated that injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano.
It added that arrangements for the burials of the departed colleagues are being organised with utmost care and respect.
The Acting Comptroller General of Immigration (CGI), Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, expressed her deep grief over the loss of the four personnel and extended her condolences to their families.
Adepoju also directed all NIS Commands and Formation Heads to fly the flag at half-mast for the next seven days and observe a three-day mourning period in honour of the fallen colleagues.
An immediate investigation has been ordered by the Acting CGI to ascertain the remote cause of the accident.
