Bayero University Kano (BUK) has suspended the ongoing first semester examination, as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) joins the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) indefinite strike.
The ASUU national body, yesterday, directed members across the country to join the nationwide industrial action declared over the assault on NLC President, Joe Ajaero.
In a statement, on Tuesday night, Acting Registrar of BUK, Amina Abdullahi, declared all academic activities remained suspended till further notice.
The institution commenced the first semester examinations on October 27, 2023 and was to round off on November 27. The university management cited the joint decision of university unions to participate in the strike.
“Following the nationwide strike by NLC and TUC, and the subsequent decision by the university unions to join the strike, the management of BUK has decided to suspend the ongoing 2022/2023 first semester undergraduate examinations and all other academic activities until further notice,” she stated.
However, the university urged students to remain calm and await further directives from the management. It is uncertain when the university will resume the examination to enable over 7,000 students to complete their academics, since the strike is indefinite.
