Bauchi State Police Command has banned any form of street jubilation, road block and inciting utterances by political parties’ supporters that may infringe on human rights, as the Court of Appeal rules on the governorship election petition today.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Wakil, yesterday, said: “All forms of celebration and rally by political party supporters for or against winners/losers of the gubernatorial election by Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, between the ruling party’s flagbearer, Sen. Bala Mohammed, and the opposition party’s Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar (rtd), which is slated to take place on Friday, November 17, 2023, must not infringe on the right of others.
“Moreover, the blissful supporters must comport themselves in line with the provisions of the law; blockage of roads, fireworks and inciting utterances or blackmail would not be condoned.”
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Auwal Muhammad, urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies, as many police operatives would be seen at strategic areas, routes and communities to suppress criminal acts.

In Kano State, the force has deployed armed personnel ahead of today’s ruling by the Court of Appeal, Abuja division, on the governorship election appeal.
Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is challenging the nullification of his election by the election petition tribunal.
The hearing is scheduled to commence at 10am, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor, Sanusi Bature, noted.
On September 20, 2023, the Kano tribunal had declared Nasiru Gawuna of All Progressives Congress (APC) as lawful winner of the March 18, 2023 governorship election, ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Governor Yusuf.
The police declared that any form of celebration or political procession before and/or after the judgment is outlawed in any part of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said adequate arrangement was in place to curtail any attempt by any group of persons to foment trouble.
Women came out en masse, yesterday, in Jos, Plateau State, to protest and demand justice over Court of Appeal judgments that sacked PDP members in the National Assembly.
Speaking with some of the women, former Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Ochekpe, said the case of Plateau raised serious concern, as similar cases had been adjudicated upon in other states as pre-election matters.
According to her, the judiciary, which is supposed to be the hope of the common man, is now becoming something else.
So I call on the relevant authorities and those who want to steal power through the back door to have a rethink as Plateau people voted for those who they want.
