MTN Nigeria leverages 5G technology for home broadband market

The Chief Broadband Officer, MTN Nigeria, Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka has highlighted how MTN Nigeria Communications Plc has leveraged 5G technology to accelerate the company’s ‘Own-The-Home’ strategy, for quick wins.

During her speech at the AfricaCom 2023, she highlighted MTN’s four strategic priorities which include building the largest and most valuable platform, driving industry-leading connectivity operations, creating shared value and accelerating portfolio transformation in alignment with MTN’s ‘Ambition 2025’ strategy of leading digital solutions for Africa’s progress.

“At MTN, we believe that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern, connected life hence our sustained investment in industry-leading connectivity operations,” she said.

She also disclosed that MTN was leveraging its extensive fibre, 5G and 4G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) infrastructure as part of the company’s strategy to connect over five million homes across Nigeria by the year 2025.

According to her, MTN has expanded its 5G network from seven states to 19 within one year after the launch of the service in Q3 2022.

She said the ongoing expansion of 5G network by MTN is expected to further accelerate broadband penetration in alignment with the Federal Government’s plan to achieve over 70 per cent broadband penetration by 2025.

Ikenna-Emeka identified MTN’s mix of cutting-edge fixed and wireless network technologies, strategic partnerships with leading global and local tech and infrastructure brands, highly differentiated value propositions, digitised customer journeys and effective customer support as key enablers in the acceleration of 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services for the telecom giant’s rapidly growing home broadband customer base in Nigeria.
