OPERATIVES of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), have arrested two private vehicles owners for flouting traffic laws at Iyana-Oworo.
The arrest was in response to series of complaints by motoring public on regular traffic gridlocks every evening from University of Lagos waterfront on Third Mainland Bridge, up to inward Iyana-Oworo axis
Acting General Manager, LASTMA Mr Bakare Oki, who led the enforcement exercise that lasted 6 p.m., to 10 p.m., disclosed that investigations conducted revealed that despite the standard bus-stop provided by the government at Iyana-Oworo, both private and commercial bus drivers still prefer to drop and pick passengers by the road side, thereby causing traffic backlog for motorists on daily basis.
He confirmed that the agency had deployed officers to managing and controlling traffic at different locations in the state. Oki said the agency would not relent until zero tolerance on traffic gridlocks is achieved. He also called on security personnel to be part of the crusade by obeying traffic laws, as anyone caught would be charged to the Lagos State Mobile Court.
