Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos (Anglican Communion), Rt. Revd. Ifedola Okupevi, yesterday, lamented that Nigerian leaders had refused to learn from past mistakes to apply knowledge.

He also condemned the bombing of Kaduna community by Nigerian military, calling for peace.

The bishop spoke during the dedication of Anglican Church of Transformation, Abijo, Lagos.

He said: “Excuses by leaders are not tenable but actions are needed to set the country on the right track.

“If our leaders can take their time to check and solve the nation’s problems one by one, it will be better for us; the issue of electricity, economy problem, bad roads, they should fix them.”

“We need peace because we don’t want to be like Ukraine and Russia, Ethiopia, Sudan and our leaders should pursue peace. The bombing at Tudun Biri in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State by the Nigerian army should not happen again because that can ignite evils in the nation. Everyone in charge should not bomb innocent people, they should target those causing insecurity in the country.

Speaking about the dedication of the church, he said: “We thank God because the church has been blessed and set apart for Godly use, prayers, Bible studies, meetings and everything spiritual and that is why the place was dedicated and we thank God for the life of the vicar, his wife, his daughter, the Parochial Church Council (PCC), the Wardens and other members of the church. We thank God.

Also, First Lady of Lagos State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who came in a few minutes before the end of the service, said: “Glory be to God I celebrate with the family of Anglican Church of Transformation, Abijo (ACOTA) on the dedication of the church building. I pray for God’s Grace to continually push forth the glorious Gospel of Christ.

On his part, Chairman, Building Committee, Roland Amaruo, said: “Appreciation is directed to all church members and partners who responded to the call for Goshen’s completion, even at these very challenging times. This dedication marks a significant milestone.
