Lagos State government, yesterday, assured the public that the pedestrian bridge at Ojodu Berger bus stop is stable and safe for use.

A recent report had alleged that the bridge was swaying, vibrating and, therefore, unsafe for use by pedestrians. The government, however, debunked the allegation, saying the current administration places a high premium on safety of life.

A statement by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, said: “The report that the pedestrian bridge is likely unsafe was debunked after engineers from the Office of Infrastructure conducted a survey and first-hand physical assessment on the bridge to determine the condition, amid rumours that it is unsafe for public use.”

The ministry said the reinforced concrete six-legged bridge, spanning the Lagos-Ibadan expressway at Berger bus stop, has slight vibrations due to heavy vehicles passing underneath. It noted that this does not, in any way, undermine its integrity.

“From the survey conducted on the bridge, it shows no visible signs of damage to the deck, and the reinforced concrete bridge is intact. It is confirmed that no part of the bridge’s sub-structure has been compromised, and the Berger pedestrian bridge is, therefore, deemed safe for public use,” the ministry added.
