Former captain of Warri Wolves FC, Goodluck Onamado says his movement to the billionaire club, FC IfeanyiUbah, would add the needed boost to his football career.For about a decade, Onamado was the commander-in-chief for the Warri-based club, providing his defensive expertise, which saw the Seasiders becoming the toast of many Nigerian fans. He led the club to a CAF Champions League campaign, as well as the Confederations Cup. But the club could not survive the relegation battle in the 2015/2016 season due a combination of factors.

Speaking with The Guardian yesterday before FC IfeanyiUbah took on visiting MFM FC of Lagos in week two of the NPFL league, which they won 4-0, Onamado said he served Warri Wolves FC as a ‘true son of the soil,’ adding, however, that inability of the present government of Delta State to hold ‘things together’ created problems for the club.

Among other things, Onamado said failure by the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s led administration to live up to its promise on payment of salary and other allowances for players and officials forced 14 of the main team players to leave the club. “That was the beginning of the problem for Warri Wolves,” Onamado said. “Other issues started to manifest and at a point, it became so clear that Warri Wolves was not going to survive. As the team captain, I continued to play my role by encouraging my teammates. But it was like flogging a dead horse,” he stated.

Onamado has pledged to contribute his quota to the success of FC IfeanyiUbah: “I am in a new base at Nnewi, and it means giving my very best to my new club. We have a good understanding here, and I see a very bright future for FC IfeanyiUba in African football. I want to be part of history,” Onamado said.The billionaire club, FC IfeanyiUbah, will fly Nigeria’s flag in this year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
