Some Personalities Guided By God (Cont)
ISAIAH also predicted that Jerusalem would fall more than 100 years before it happened (586 B.C.) and that the temple would be rebuilt about 200 years before it happened. It is clear these prophecies came from a God Who knows the future.
“Who raised up one from the east? Who in righteousness called him to His feet? Who gave the nations before him, and made him rule over kings? Who gave them as the dust to his sword, as driven stubble to his bow?” (Is 41:2) NKJV.
“Who raised up the righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made him rule over kings? He gave them as the dust to his sword, and as driven stubble to his bow,” (Is 41:2) KJV.
“The righteous man from the east.” More than 150 years before the birth of Cyrus, Isaiah foresaw that God would raise up a man to do His will by conquering the nations and protecting Israel; this man was Cyrus, the king of Persia (559-530B.C., see 44:28; 45:1), the one who freed the Jews from their Babylonian exile. He was called righteous, not because he, himself, was righteous, but because he would carry out God’s righteous plan of redemption on the earth.
It seems that behind all king Cyrus’s empire building, behind all his plans and strategies, the purposes of Jehovah could be found. Though Cyrus was unaware of it himself, he was being guided in some of his pursuits by the divine hand. Many aspects of guidance may not be clear to us, but we can be secure in the knowledge that the God to whom we belong guides His children even when they are not conscious of it. How many times with hindsight do we realise that what we called co-incidence were actually God’s guidance?
• Be Teachable
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye,” (Ps 32:8). “I will instruct you.” The Lord promises to instruct and guide a forgiven believer who has a teachable spirit, treasures God’s presence and counsel (cf. v.7), trusts in Him (v.10), rejoices in Him (v.11), and continues upright in heart (v.11)
(8) Perseverance Is A Pre-Requisite To Achieving God’s Will
“That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man.17: That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,” (Eph 3:16,17).
“But Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end,” (Heb 3:6).
We must not lose heart and quit.
