Binis Have Ties With Monarchical Set But Not Founders Of Lagos, Oba Declares
The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu and the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, yesterday, maintained that there is no rift between Yoruba and Igbo, insisting that both ethnic groups have long years of relationships and ties.

They spoke when Iwuanyanwu paid a visit to the palace of the Oba of Lagos.

The President General of Ohanaeze Worldwide said the visit became necessary to intimate a long time friend and brother that he has been elected to lead the Igbo race.

According to Iwuanyanwu, he has been a friend to the Lagos monarch for more than 40 years, adding that the friendship has birthed many good things and assistance from both parties.

He added that most of his best friends are Yoruba, adding that they also managed some of his businesses.

Iwuanyanwu further said that one of his daughters is married to the Arisekola family in Ibadan, Oyo State, saying there are many more Igbo daughters and sons that have married Yoruba daughters and sons.

He insisted that those who feel there is a rift between the Igbo and Yoruba are wrong, stating that the tie between both ethnic groups is too strong to entertain any rift.

Iwuanyanwu disclosed that despite the fact that Ndigbo did not support President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections because they felt it was there turn to rule the country, he has told his people that since he has been elected and confirmed by the court, he (Tinubu) must be given all the support he needs to succeed.

Speaking, Akiolu said he was very happy to see and host a long term friend, reminding him of the affairs they have had together in the last 40 years.

The monarch said that Igbos are very hard working people but noted that they must respect the laws of the land.

He further said: “We have identified enough the problems of Nigeria but it is time for solutions.”

Akiolu said that as in every tribe, there are good and bad people among the Igbo, stressing that he has a good number of very good Igbos who have supported and assisted him at one time or the other.

“There is no tribe that will come to Lagos that will not thrive. Many youths are hard working but politicians are using them for their selfish interest,” he added.

The monarch said that the government of Lagos State could not intentionally destroy properties owned by Igbos, noting that people must keep to the rules of engagement.

“Nigeria under our able president will move forward. Any time anybody comes to tell you something, be a good listener and don’t respond,” he said.

The monarch maintained that though the Binis have a tie with the monarchical set up of Lagos, they are not the founders of Lagos.
