Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, (NCoS), Haliru Nababa has tasked newly promoted senior officers of the service to continue to show commitment and dedication to service in keeping with expectations of their new ranks.
He stated this during the decoration of 53 senior cadre officers of the agency following the their promotions, yesterday in Abuja.
According to him, “promotion comes with higher responsibilities therefore, I charge you to be ready for more work and tougher challenges.
“As serious-minded corrections officers, I expect nothing short of dedication to duty and professionalism in line with statutory provisions and extant rules.”
Nababa adds that “Personnel welfare will remain top priority, under my watch. Staff housing and office accommodation as you are all aware, is being given special attention, with the construction of new barracks and renovation of dilapidated ones.
“I call on all members of staff to re-double their efforts in the discharge of their assigned duties. Loyalty, should be your watchword as we ensure that the new political dispensation in the country succeeds.
“Like I have always emphasized, the role of personnel in the achievement of Service-goals is critical hence, the need to always keep them motivated and in high-spirit. Promotion of officers as and when due, is one way of assuring officers and men that their individual performances are recognized and well appreciated.
“Of significant note is the fact that the entire year 2023 promotion exercise took place within record time, signifying great improvement in the system. A total of 5,014 officers benefitted from the exercise, representing about 72% of those who sat for the examinations.
“To the few that participated but did not make to the last stage, I encourage you not to relent as yours will come in due time.
Secretary of the board of civil defence, correctional, fire and immigration services and former CG, NCoS, Ja’afatu Ahmed, pointed that for every promotion in the service, there is more responsibility hence, all promoted and decorated personnel must remain focused on the responsibility assigned to them.
He charged the personnel to “be ambassadors of the Nigerian correctional service and live by example. Let the officers and men under you learn from you, be well learned on issues concerning the service.”
