Three die as building collapses in Ebute Metta

A three-storey building at Ebute Metta area of Lagos collapsed, yesterday, resulting in three fatalities.

Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), in a statement, confirming the incident, said that on arriving the scene of the building collapse, it observed that a three-storey residential building with a penthouse collapsed.

“The cause of the collapse is unknown. Three people are presently trapped under the rubbles while other occupants escaped when the building gave signs and sound.

Emergency responders at the incident scene are LASEMA, LASAMBUS, LASEMA Pre-Hospital Care Team, Lagos State Fire Service, LASBCA, NEMA, Lagos Mainland LGA and the NPF.

“Three adults rescued alive and attended by LASEMA Pre-Hospital Care and LASAMBUS.

“Three fatalities have been extracted from the rubble comprising of an adult male, adult female and one young female, an11 year old.”

LASEMA said operation was still ongoing and will provide further updates.

It would be recalled that a building with over 500 rooms recently collapsed in the Ketu area of Lagos State.

Two persons were hurt after the school-turned-residential building partially collapsed.

The building housing hundreds of residents located at Agboye Estate on Oduntan Street, Ketu, first caved in on Saturday afternoon following hours of rainfall that greeted most parts of Lagos.
