APC alleges plot to pilfer N8b from Kano coffers

All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised the alarm over an alleged plan by Kano State government functionaries to pilfer N8,080,190,875.13 from the state’s purse.

Chairman of Kano APC, Abdullahi Abbas, urged officials of the 44 local councils in the state not to partake in alleged moves by government functionaries.

He also warned commercial banks involved in the alleged deal to halt the process of clearing the release of the monies. APC’s position is coming against the backdrop of the Supreme Court on the governorship tussle between Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Yusuf Gawuna of APC.

The APC chief, in a statement, yesterday, claimed he was in possession of a copy of the letter of conveyance of approval from the Ministry of Local Government directing the 44 local councils to release N101,655,000.38 and N3,607,370,858 for the construction of Dan’Agundi and Tal’udu interchanges respectively.

Abbas pointed out that the approval letter, which was sent to all council’s chairmen, copied to the Auditor-General, local council audit and all zonal inspectors of the ministry, was for the contribution of the councils to the projects.

The party chairman noted that, just on Friday, the government removed and posted new Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs) and treasurers to ensure no hitches in muscling the local councils through the embezzlement of their funds.

He stated that the decision to embark on such projects at this time came under attack, even by people within the NNPP fold and called on the government to reconsider it in the interest of the development of Kano.
