PAN-AFRICAN-EUROPEAN Organisation “Africa Vagabonds” has urged news media organisations to professionalise crisis and war reporting. Findings from a study titled: Media Routines and Ignorance? authored by Lutz Mükke, a founding member of the organisation, said the historic defeat of the West in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya among others and the escalating Russia-Ukraine war provide more than enough reason for media organisations to professionalise crisis and war reporting.
According to the study, the necessary professionalisation is essential for in-depth and high-quality democratic discourse. The survey researched how German army’s Sahel interventions and the parliamentary debates about it are portrayed in some of the most influential media in Germany. In 2023, the Otto Brenner Foundation in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, published the survey in collaboration with the pan-African-European association, Africa Vagabonds.
