The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria (CIPSMN) has charged the federal government on proper training of procurement officers.
The need, the institute said, was due to the sensitivity of the profession. Hence, deep knowledge is required by the officers to be efficient.CIPSMN Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Aliyu, said this during the conferment of professorship on him by the International Entrepreneurship University, Delaware, United States.
Noting that procurement remains a peculiar profession, he said its leadership must be specifically trained in arts and science to meet the high expectations of their careers. He said the institute is ready to work with the current administration for effective and efficient procurement.
“Procurement is very sensitive and needs deep knowledge and this institution is the best in position to carry out a proper procurement.
“Procurement is critical to all countries and organisations. Expenditure of any organisation goes to this sector. The government must, in the new year, embark on the training of procurement officers for proper deliverables,” he said. Aliyu said the professorship conferment gave him additional responsibility in carrying out more research that would be of benefit to the economy.
