Vice Chancellor, Igbinedion University, Okada (IUO), Edo State, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye has called on the Federal Government to support the development of private institutions by allowing them to benefit from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) intervention project.
Speaking with reporters in Edo State ahead of the institution’s 25th anniversary celebration, Ezemonye emphasised the need for the government to support private universities through interventions.
He said the government’s support would help in addressing some of the challenges faced by private universities over the years.
Ezemonye said the university, which is the first private institution in Nigeria, has achieved remarkable successes in teaching, research, capacity building, innovative studies and most significantly, the production of exceptional graduates in diverse fields of human endeavour, who are contributing their quota to national and global development.
The vice chancellor pointed out that the attainment of 25 years of corporate existence is a notable landmark worthy of celebration.
“Undoubtedly, the landscape of higher education is changing rapidly and disruptively, just as the entire education sector in Africa, hence, the need to adapt to global demands. It is obvious that future ready universities must be equipped with continually increasing potency for technological disruption and collective digital paradigm shift.” he said.
