Abia Warriors are to cough out N250, 000 as punishment for their fans’ misconduct during their Week Three league game against Remo Stars at the weekend, the League Management Company (LMC) have ruled.
The league body has also reprimanded the match referee, Dankano Abdullahi, for a below par performance in the encounter.
Abdullahi awarded a controversial late minute penalty to the home team, Remo Stars, which gave the Ogun State-based team a 1-0 victory over the Abia Warriors. The controversial penalty drew the ire of Abia Warriors’ players, who confronted the referee in a manner deemed contrary to the dictates of the game by the LMC.
The LMC reminded Abia Warriors that only team captains have the right to approach a referee in protest of any decision and subsequently gave Abia Warriors until tomorrow to appeal or accept the sanctions.
It also advised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Referees Committee to withdraw Abdullahi from future league matches pending full investigation of his performance in the game.
