Ibadan fire: Senator sympathises with traders, seeks probe

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, Sharafadeen Alli, yesterday, commiserated with traders at Sango market in Ibadan, Oyo State, following an inferno that engulfed the area.

This was contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas.

The fire, allegedly caused by an electric spark, destroyed over 20 shops and goods worth millions, leaving affected traders in a state of despair.

Alli expressed sadness and empathised with the traders. He acknowledged the devastating impact of the incident on the livelihoods and businesses of men and women who had worked tirelessly to provide for their families and contribute to the economic growth of the community.

The lawmaker emphasised the need for prompt action and support from relevant authorities to help the traders recover from the tragedy.

He called on the Oyo State Government, market leaders, and well-meaning individuals to provide relief to the affected and provide resources to help them rebuild their businesses.

The lawmaker expressed concern over the recent spate of fire incidents in markets and institutions in Ibadan. He also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and relevant agencies to investigate recent incidents in the state.
