The House of Representatives is mulling expanding operational coverage of Tompolo’s pipeline security firm, Tantita Security Services Limited, to high seas and deep waters.
The House Committee on Oil Theft, which inspected two of the vessels arrested by Tantita, at Oporoza, Gbaramatu kingdom, Delta state, at the weekend, commended the company for its efforts in protecting the nation’s oil assets, promising to set in motion a legal framework for the involvement of private security outfits in bigger roles in securing Nigeria’s oil assets.
The Committee’s Chairman, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, who spoke on behalf of the House delegation, said that based on the performance of Tantita so far, they would seek expansion of its mandate beyond shallow waters into deep waters.
Doguwa said: “We will see to the possibility of creating a legal framework where private institutions like Tantita will be allowed to operate not only on the shallow water but to go up and operate even in the high sea.”
