Many people were injured and some exotic cars recovered when the Anambra State Joint Security Force busted the camp of sit-at-home proponents in Achalla, Awka North Local Council of the state.
It was learnt that the operation was ordered by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye.
Confirming the development in a statement yesterday, spokesperson for Anambra State Police Command, Ikenga Tochukwu, said the operation took the sit-at-home exponents by surprise.
He said many of the enforcers fled with gunshot wounds, leaving trails of blood.
“The hoodlums had disrupted trading at Achalla Market the previous Monday, ordering traders to sit at home. This drew the attention of the security apparatus in the state, hence the command decided to give them a taste of their own medicine in the early hours of Monday, February 19.
“Recovered items included: five exotic vehicles previously snatched at gunpoint, over 300 rounds of machine gun ammunition and 34 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition for AK-47 rifles,” Tochukwu said.”
He further said a manhunt for fleeing members of the group would be extended to hospitals and clinics.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has urged owners of the recovered vehicles to come forward with proof of ownership and retrieve them.
