Barely three months after over 100 innocent Nigerians were killed by an ‘erroneous’ army drone, the citizens are yet to have a glimpse of the outcome of the probe panel raised by the military high command.

The exercise had ‘accidentally’ killed no fewer than 85 civilians observing a Muslim festival in the Northwest.

Locals of Tudun Biri in Kaduna State had gathered for the El-Maulud celebration when at about 9.00 p.m., they heard what sounded like an aeroplane, followed by a huge explosion.
President Bola Tinubu had ordered security agencies and state authorities to investigate the bombing that reportedly killed the worshippers on
December 3. The House of Representatives had also vowed to monitor the investigation.

Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Babajimi Benson, gave the assurance in a statement titled: “Tundun Biri tragedy elicits profound sorrow,” in Abuja at the weekend.

Responding to enquiries, the spokesman of the Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, said he would soon give an update on the investigation.

His words: “I will soon talk about it and give you updates on the panel.”

But the National Coordinator of Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), Emmanuel Onwubiko, warned that the matter should not be swept under the carpet.

He stated: “In the spirit of full disclosure, the investigative panel has a duty under the law to publicise an executive summary of their findings that do not endanger national security.

“There is a need for accountability, and since the Chief of Defence Staff has been quoted by the media to have profusely apologised and categorised the incident as an accident due to an error of judgment, there is, therefore, the need for Nigerians to be told conclusively what exactly happened on that day, whereby hundreds of innocent villagers were bombed to their untimely deaths.”
