The Kano State Hisbah Board has demolished a site widely known as a “healing water” location in Hotoron Arewa, a neighbourhood within the Kano metropolis.
The site had drawn thousands of visitors from within Kano and neighbouring states seeking spiritual or divine healing and was razed on Monday, April 21, according to the Director General of the Hisbah Board, Abba Sufi.
Sufi said the board acted after uncovering “disgruntled elements” using the site to mislead people in need of medical or spiritual help.
“The place was demolished on Monday, April 21, after we discovered that some disgruntled elements are using the place to mislead desperate patients seeking treatment,” Sufi confirmed to reporters on Wednesday.
He noted that the hisbah board, a religious police unit enforcing Islamic moral standards, would not tolerate what he called “undesirable elements” taking advantage of the public under false pretenses.
Sufi warned residents of Kano and visitors to disregard any claims regarding the site’s sanctity, describing the entire operation as a scam.
