Barely two years after successfully showcasing his inaugural collection in 2019, rising fashion designer Adeniji Omole said he is ready to showcase another collection this April.
According to the CEO and creative director of the Ómòlé fashion brand: “The Checkers collection will be a collection of jackets. I explored my artistic flair as a designer by incorporating adire tipping and African fusion elements. These jackets, tailored for men, exude a blend of artistry and style, making them standout pieces for any wardrobe.”
The driving force behind the collection, he said, was his desire to infuse his artistic flair with elements of adire tipping.

“By melding these distinctive features, the jackets were meticulously crafted to radiate a seamless blend of artistry and style, resulting in standout pieces ideal for any wardrobe. Furthermore, the introduction of checkered joggers aims to offer a versatile and casually sophisticated option, effortlessly complementing any top,” Omole explained.
The indigene of Lagos further stated that his materials are sourced locally.
“I source my textiles from either Tejuosho in Lagos or Aba market; I buy the textiles, take them to the workshop and add prints to them. I then proceed to bring my designs to life through these textiles,” he said.
Giving insights into the creative process behind his designs, Omole said he burns the candle at both ends in preparation for his exhibitions.
“The creative process for us at Ómòlé fashion is an interesting one, especially when I have a collection coming. I spend days and nights thinking and collecting experiences and events happening around me. I sketch designs regularly and admire them for a while. If I find myself going back to a certain design regularly, I am convinced that it is the right design. I then develop it and come up with the final product. I believe that if I can be attached to a certain design, my customers will love it as well. I only want the finest designs for my customers,” he revealed.
The wave-making fashion designer, who professed his penchant for simple designs and colours, said he is looking forward to working with international brands.

“I would love to work with Dries Van Noten, I believe this designer recognises the beauty of batik and understands the concept as one that is timeless. He is a Belgian designer but he has eyes for Batik designs; he has used them in some of his collections. I would love to be a part of some of his amazing works,” he reflected.
For aspiring young people still striving to break into the big time, the Ómòlé brand director offered a nugget of advice, saying: “Only do it if you have the passion for it, there are some days when the passion is the only thing that keeps you going.”
He also added: “The major drive is behind my perseverance. Sometimes, when it seems like things are not going my way, I let confidence lead the way. It always works out fine.”
Looking ahead into the future, he said: “New designers have come to the limelight in the past five years. I have seen Amiri, Represent, Fear of God and the like attract the attention of everyone. I see my brand, Ómòlé, opening the doors to the mainstream market for other African brands.”
