• Thwart abduction attempt on Katsina’s couple

Operatives of Kwara State Police command have arrested suspects for abduction of a Chinese, Pengchao Zhang in Ilorin fortnight ago. Zhang, also known as Williams Kaka, was kidnapped in his hotel room at Cherish Guest House at Eiyenkorin area of Ilorin, the state capital, which sparked concerns and fear within the community.

The Guardian gathered that combined moves and strategies by the Police and vigilante rescued the Chinese in the early hours of Tuesday. Confirming the incident, the command’s spokesperson, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun said the victim has since been reunited with his family unharmed.

“This achievement underscores the unwavering commitment of the Kwara State Police Command to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors within the state,” she added.

Meanwhile, an attempt by suspected terrorists to abduct a couple in Kankara Local Council of Katsina State has been thwarted by police operatives.

Spokesperson for the command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu said the incident occurred on Monday night at about 11:45p.m., in Hayin Dam community. He said the terrorists, armed with dangerous weapons, invaded the residence of one Kabir Magaji, 35, and his wife, Sa’adatu, 20, with the intention of kidnapping them.

He added that police operatives in the area got wind of the abduction attempt, and subsequently moved to the scene where there was a fierce gun duel.

“The Katsina State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, has successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and rescued kidnapped victims.

“On March 18, at about 11:45p.m., a report was received at the Kankara Divisional Headquarters that some suspected armed bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, attacked Hayan Dam village, in Kankara Local Council, and invaded the residence of one Kabir Magaji, age 35 years old, of the same address, to kidnap him alongside his wife, one Sa’adatu Magaji, age 20 years old.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Kankara promptly mobilised a team of operatives and responded to the scene, where they engaged the suspected bandits in a fierce gun duel.

“The team successfully thwarted the kidnapping attempt and rescued the couple unhurt. Efforts have been intensified to arrest fleeing suspects.

“Furthermore, members of the public are advised to promptly report anybody seen with a bullet wound, as some of the suspects escaped the scene with gunshot injuries.

“The Commissioner of Police, while commending the officers for their outstanding displays of bravery, dedication, and professionalism, urges the good people of Katsina State to continue to provide the command and other security agencies in the state with timely information on suspected criminal activities to enable the command and other security agencies take swift and decisive action against any recalcitrant criminal in the state.

“He further reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the protection of the lives and property of the good people of the state under his stewardship,” he declared.
