Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the developers of the Truck Call-Up Technology, is set to introduce the system along the Lekki-Epe axis to alleviate the burgeoning traffic congestion in the area.

During a stakeholder meeting at the Lekki Free Zone Development Company office, the Commissioner for Transport, Mr Seun Osiyemi, emphasised the urgency of addressing the traffic jams caused by indiscriminate parking of container trucks and tankers.

After touring the Free Zone, Osiyemi mentioned that the government was exploring the possibility of using waterways for the evacuation of bulk, both dry and liquid, from the port.

He stressed the importance of collaboration between the government and companies in the zone to swiftly improve the situation.

Deputy Managing Director of the Lekki Free Zone Development Company, Mrs Bolatito Ajibode, highlighted the zone as a prime location for investors, with over 3,000 hectares of land available.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Call-Up Technology, Tim Koleolu, explained that terminal operators within the designated red zone – from Eleko Junction inwards – would be integrated into the call-up system to enhance traffic management and administrative efficiency.

Koleolu also noted that their technology is now operational at the Lekki Deep Seaport, Lekki Free Trade Zone and all approved parks.

The distribution of cargo from the port is planned that the roads will handle 52 per cent of the cargo, while waterways will take 22 per cent, and the remaining 22 per cent will be managed by the proposed rail system.

Additionally, the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Workers (NUPENG) has expressed its commitment to working alongside other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the call-up system by incorporating their members into the initiative.
