
Fourteen persons were said to have died in a head-on collision involving two Toyota buses in Kogi. The incident which happened on Sunday morning in Aloma Community, in Ofu Local Government Area of the state, also left 13’persons injured.
A villager simply called Adejoh told our correspondent that the accident involved a Toyota Sienna Bus heading South East and a Toyota Hiace Bus heading to Abuja from the southern part of the country.
“The 13 persons including the driver of the Hiace Bus were completely burnt by the fire that engulfed it immediately after the head on coalition with the Sienna bus.
“But one out of the four surviving persons in the bus died in hospital from the burns suffered bringing the number to 14 that died, ” Adejoh said.
According to him, none of the 10 occupants of the Sienna bus died but were badly wounded and receiving treatment in the hospital.
He gave credence to the villagers who quickly came to the scene of the accident and rescued the injured persons.
“It’s because of their timely intervention that the Sienna bus did not get burnt as well, ” he said.
Adejoh blamed the accident to speeding and potholes along a bend close to Government science secondary school, Aloma.
He said it took rescuers three hours to remove the driver of the Sienna bus, whose two legs were reportedly badly damaged.
When contacted, the Kogi Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, confirmed the incident, but said that he was yet to get details of the accident.
“I’m yet to be briefed by the unit commander in that axis of the true picture of the accident, ” he said.
