Bago offers free transportation to Niger children as wife visits orphanage
Governor Umaru Bago has provided free transportation to school children across Niger State’s 25 council areas.
He announced this while unveiling CNG buses in Minna, yesterday.
While unveiling the vehicles, Bago disclosed that in the next six months, another 1,000 buses would also be inaugurated, adding that all civil servants that would transit in the buses would enjoy discounts.
The governor maintained that his administration’s policy direction was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s green economy vision.
Bago hinted that he had approved N25 billion for payment of pensions and gratuity to retirees, who retired over the years and have not been paid their entitlements.
He revealed that approval has also been granted for the promotion of civil servants due for elevation.
Beside, his wife, Fatima, visited the state’s orphanage along Bosso Estate in Minna to share motherly love with the orphans as part of activities to mark his first year in office.
She assured the inmates of her husband’s desire to improve their lot, assuring them of better days ahead.
“This is just the beginning, there is so much for you to benefit from the present administration in the state. Rest assured that you are not alone, we feel for you, and we will always be there for you to play the role of motherhood,” she added.
The governor’s wife made a symbolic presentation of gift items such as bags of rice, beans, vegetable oil, cartons of noodles, bags of salt, drinks and medications.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Titi Auta, informed that the home was housing 42 inmates, with a majority of them enrolled in private schools within the estate, adding that they were doing very well academically.
She commended the First Lady for her kindness to the less privileged and charged wealthy individuals to emulate her.
“The governor’s wife always visits the orphanage privately to share love with the orphans. She has been in touch with the children. We are appreciative of her concern and compassion,” the commissioner added.
In another development, Governor Bago has provided free transportation to all the school children across the state’s 25 council areas.
