One dead in Yobe cattle market explosion
At least one person was killed in an explosion at the Buni Yadi cattle market in Gujba Local Government Area (LGA) of Yobe State on Friday.
Eyewitnesses report that the incident happened at around 11:12 am along the Biu road, during the market’s weekly gathering.
A spokesman for the Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, Muhammad Shehu, confirmed that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was involved in the incident.
Shehu added that another IED was discovered and safely detonated by the Army.
He further explained that the only victim of the explosion is currently receiving treatment at one of the health facilities in Buni Yadi.
Shehu noted that the incident was a planted IED and not a suicide bombing incident.
The market, which is held every Friday, was packed with traders and customers at the time of the explosion.
