Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya

Lagos State government has underscored the importance of having organised markets across the state, saying it will ease purchasing of food items as well as translates to lower prices of items because demand could be measured and supply price could be negotiated.

Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, said this on Friday at the press briefing to announce Eko Flavours competition.
According to her, the Eko flavour project, was introduced to drive efforts to transform food markets in Lagos, as part of initiative by the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration’s to better shape the state’s food system.

She said that the competition, which is a pilot project would be held annually and meant to be a culinary platform for chefs to showcase their talent and interact with food enthusiasts.

She said chefs can go to the project’s website,  www.ekoflavours.lagosfreshfoodhub.com from August 1 to register to participate in the completion as the winner will get N5m cash reward, one year free products supply and N200,000 voucher to shop at the Mushin Fresh Food Hub.

The commissioner said there would also be prizes for the top 10 shortlisted participants. Co-founder, Tantacom Group, Jennifer Odufuwa, said that by August 9, the owners of the 50 best engaged content posted on the website would be given vouchers to buy fresh food items at the Mushin Fresh Food Hub, which they will cook.

Thereafter, the best 20 chefs would be invited to the food hub to compete from where the best five would be picked for the final on August 31.
