
Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has fixed November 30 for conduct of local council elections in the state. Its Chairman, Prof. Sani Malunfashi, who made the disclosure yesterday in Kano, assured that the electoral umpire was ready, with series of activities kicking off from August 15.
The KANSIEC boss hinted that about 13,000 ad hoc staff would be deployed in the 11,222 polling units across the 484 political wards in the 44 council areas of the state.
Releasing the guidelines, Malunfashi revealed that the process commences with notification from August 15 to 31 and campaigns September 6 to November 29.
He added: “Sale of forms starts from Wednesday, October 2 to Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Submission of all completed forms is Friday, October 18. Verification of candidates by the commission and submission of names of party agents by political parties hold from Friday October I8 to Friday, October 25, while release of names of qualified candidates is Friday, October 25.”
Reacting on credibility of the poll, Malunfashi pledged a credible exercise amid adequate security. Although, the chairman hinted that card reader would not be used, he, however, challenged political parties to play by the rules and avoid needless acquisition.
“It is pertinent at this point to draw the attention of parties and their candidates that pasting of posters on government’s buildings and places of worship is outlawed,” he restated.
