#EndBadGovernance: Counter protest breaks out in Abuja

A group of protesters, in about eight Toyota Coaster buses, are staging a counter protest at the National Stadium in Abuja, the venue of the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations.

The protesters, who are a distance away from the #EndBadGovernance, carried a single message on their placards:“No Protest.”

One of their leaders, who simply identified himself as Titus, simply told our correspondent that “there is no need for protest” against the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.

According to him, his group is staging a peaceful protest to show that the youths rather want dialogue instead of protest.

The Guardian reports that #EndBadGovernance protesters had converged at the National Stadium in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja this morning, as the hunger protests scheduled to begin from August 1 and end on August 10 kick off on Thursday.

At the venue, the protesters disagreed with the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ben Igwe, over the move to restrict the protest to only inside the stadium.

While the protesters gathered at the entrance of the stadium, displaying placards and chanting about hunger, Igwe insisted that the protesters must respect court orders regarding the protest.

Our correspondent observed that the number of police officers, in about 20 Toyota Hilux and other cars, as well as Army and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel, is nearly equal to the total number of protesters.

One of the leaders of the protest, Deji Adeyanju, was present at the venue in Abuja.
