Major markets in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), yesterday, remain under lock and key, as the #EndBadGovernance protesters spill into streets. The popular Wuse market, known for bustling with activities, was deserted, with security officers parading the structure.

The same scenario played out at Dutse market, where placard-carrying protesters were seen being herded away from the locked gates. But it was a field day for fuel black marketers, as filling stations in city centre were under.

A vehicle owner, Sabiu Ahmed, said he has since been forced to park his car. He said all vehicles are being forced to put up leaves as a mark of solidarity.

The popular Banex Plaza was also deserted, with very few vehicles plying the road known for constant gridlock. The usual traffic warders along Banex junction have also disappeared.

Meanwhile, along the Kubwa Expressway, thick smoke billowed at various spots, as hoodlums burn tyres and run amok on the highway, while soldiers were seen attempting to clear the few vehicles plying the road.

Small business owners lining streets in Kubwa and Dutse equally went into hiding.  The few that braved the atmosphere and opened shops witnessed low patronage, as most residents were indoors.

All motorcycle riders, known as Okada, in Kubwa and Dutse axis were also seen brandishing leaves to avoid harassment. One of them said there was shooting at NNPC junction in Kubwa, stating one person had been killed.

The demonstration also took another dimension, as hoodlums infiltrated the exercise, extorting money commuters. The Guardian observed that hoodlums, armed with sticks and stones, set up makeshift roadblocks and bonfires, stopping vehicles and demanding money from drivers and passengers along the popular Kubwa Expressway.
