Women Economic Emancipation Group (WEEG) in Kwara State has given President Bola Tinubu a two-week ultimatum to review his economic policies or face mass protests.

The group led by a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at a press conference in Ilorin on Monday threatened to mobilise over 2,000 fellow women for the protest.

The WEEG chairperson, Hajia Sherifat Sulaimon, expressed disappointment over what she described as the federal government’s “life-threatening policies.”

She said: “Nigeria is no longer at ease; Nigerians are living in pains, the socioeconomic reality is no longer comprehensible.”

Sherifat alleged that the Federal Government’s palliative initiative did not go round to the masses but ended up in churches and mosques.

Describing the palliative initiative as a scam, she said: “no to palliatives, all we want and crave for is reversal of policies and removal of oil subsidy.”

According to the APC chieftain: “Truly, before the 2023 election, all the three major candidates promised to remove the subsidy but we expect a democrat like president Tinubu to do it in phases, for he ought to have known and consider Nigeria’s complexity.”

The APC chieftain explained that the multiplier effect of the oil subsidy gave room for a rise in the cost of food items beyond the reach of common Nigerians.

She lamented the fuel pump price which she disclosed now sells for between N670-N1,000 in Kwara State.

She said: “this briefing is to seek prompt action by the federal government to redress the situation otherwise, after two weeks, over 10,000 women in Kwara State shall troop out to protest the devastating situation.”

Also speaking, Jimoh Simbiat Opeyemi, mother of three from Ilorin South said she joined other Kwara indigents to vote for Tinubu because of her believe in him: “look at me now, what have I gained? I am a graduate without job while my children now suffer for my actions during the election.”
