Hoodlums raze council secretariat, vandalise Bauchi govt lodge, others
Gov imposes 24-hr curfew in Katagum
Hoodlums in Azare, Katagum council area of Bauchi State vandalised the Government Lodge, country home of the immediate past deputy governor, Baba Tela, and burnt the council secretariat.
According to residents, who spoke with The Guardian, the hoodlums vandalised the politician’s home during the ongoing nationwide protests against ‘bad governance’. The thugs reportedly torched the secretariat yesterday.
A resident said: “The protesters went to the secretariat, Baba Tela’s house and Government Lodge. They destroyed some valuable items and carted away some things.
“There has been tension in some parts of Azare because the security personnel are really everywhere.”PERHAPS to douse the tension, the state government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the council area.
Media Adviser to the Governor, Mukhtar Gidado, confirmed this in a statement. He said his principal, Bala Mohammed, had approved the imposition, with immediate effect to contain the situation.
