Motorcycle snatchers kill two okada riders, steal bikes in Ondo

Two commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as ‘okada riders’, have been killed in the Akoko axis of Ondo State after they were attacked by unidentified assailants who also made off with their motorcycles.

One of the victims, Jatto Dada, 28, who hailed from Iyani-Akoko in the northern senatorial district of the state, was hacked down along Okeagbe-Akoko around Arigidi-Akoko.

Dada, a father of two, had been declared missing three days before his decomposing corpse was found on Tuesday.

An indigene of the community, who identified himself as Niyi, said when the father of two did not return home from work, his family raised an alarm, and his friends set out to look for him.

He added, “His phone was not going through when we called, and that was when everyone became apprehensive. It was the third day that his body was seen along the road. This is just too sad for all of us because Jatto was a highly intelligent and hard-working young man.”

The other incident occurred between Arigidi-Akoko and Ikare-Akoko when an okada rider from the northern part of the country was hit with a sledgehammer by his attackers, who disguised themselves as passengers.

The victim, who gave up the ghost after he was rushed to the hospital, described how he was attacked at the assailant’s hideout, where he was lured.

However, luck ran against his assailants as they were nabbed by security agents with the stolen bike in Akunu-Akoko, a border town in Kogi State.

Meanwhile, a commercial motorcyclist was also attacked in Akure, the state capital, on Tuesday with his bike.

According to sources, the unidentified okada rider was hit with a pestle on his head at the Leo axis of Akure metropolis but managed to escape with injuries.

Confirming the incidents, the police spokesperson in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, stated that investigations had commenced.
