Bago prioritises healthcare sector with revamping of general hospitals, PHCs

Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago of Niger State has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to prioritise the health sector both at primary and tertiary level in order to achieve optimal result.

A statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Digital Media and Strategy, Abdulbaqy Usman Ebbo, noted that Bago-led administration is giving premium attention to the health sector to stem the tide of medical workers’ exodus in the state.

Ebbo stated that before now, the doctors’ quarters at General Hospital, Minna, had been in a state of comatose for many years, resulting in terrible living conditions for doctors.

He however said that Governor Bago has completely transformed the doctors’ building, making the quarters habitable and conducive for doctors working in the hospital.

The governor’s aide also revealed that the first ever state university teaching hospital is under construction named Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Teaching Hospital, Minna.

He hinted that the state-owned IBB Specialist Hospital is undergoing remodeling, with new departments being created and state-of-the-art facilities installed for effective and efficient service delivery.

Ebbo maintained that the state government has also begun the construction of 100 level-2 primary healthcare centers (PHCs) with about 20 set to be completed in 10 weeks.
