MAKING its way into the beauty and accessories space, new entrant, Eami’s Place, officially opened its doors to the public over the weekend, to the delight of guests and lovers of style and luxury.
Situated in Victoria Island, Lagos and founded by two sisters, Edinyanga and Itoro Okopide, they said their 2-in-1 hair and souvenir store, which boasts luxurious and iconic pieces from all over the world, started online before evolving into a physical store.
Revealing that because they stock items from all over the world, Itoro said foreign exchange is a bit of a challenge for them. “However, we travel often to look for items ourselves as Edinyanga has a travel company and travels often. Whenever she travels, she gets the hand-picked, unique pieces that ensure our originality and quality.”
Itoro said a walk-in store was needed so that customers and lovers of unique items and accessories get a first-hand feel of what they have to offer. “We are open to all and available to everyone who loves unique gift items. We stock vintage South African wines, Arabic pieces, accessories from Europe and hair bundles and wigs from Asia.”
The graduate of English Language and founder, The Bond Hair, said before venturing into business, she worked in finance and wrote for a travel blog. “People ask me, why hair? I strongly believe that hair is beauty and I have always loved women that love to look beautiful. I have always had a passion for working in beauty and we know that a woman’s hair is often the first thing people notice about her. My mom has always pushed me to look and feel beautiful and this is something that has remained with me.”
She added that their units are uniquely sourced and wigged by Asian experts. “We create the designs and style the wigs ourselves to create each unique, unconventional piece.”
Adding that despite the downturn in the economy currently, the interest has been huge already, she said she is positive they would make a huge impact in the beauty and accessories sectors.
Speaking, Edinyanga said her love for exotic pieces stemmed from realising that when Nigerians travel outside the country, they often do not interact/immerse themselves in the culture of that place. “My travel brand was concerned with getting Nigerians immersed in the culture of their visiting country and the souvenir store was birthed from there as well. I travel with groups and partner with some brands who help bring pieces from different countries. There was a good reception for these pieces, especially for those who could not afford to travel themselves.”
She added that luxurious beauty goes hand in hand with lifestyle and is only on brand to have both available in one location. Revealing that traveling outside the country is becoming more and more expensive, she said this is a way to have items from different countries without actually going there. “Our goal is to also carry local gift items too but the manpower and long time to produce them is proving to be a concern. I would love for us to stock gift items from the North for example, but insecurity and access is still a problem,” she said.
