The Commander of the Amotekun Corps in Ogun State, Aina Oluwakayode, has called on the state government to support the grassroots security outfit more to enhance its operations.
Oluwakayode, who made this call while speaking with The Guardian yesterday, emphasised the outfit’s critical role in enhancing policing and maintaining peace in the state.
He highlighted the importance of intelligence gathering through close engagement with community leaders and members, a strategy that has proven effective in addressing security challenges.
He said: “Our operatives live in the community, so we can easily get any information we need from the community’s people.
We engage closely with traditional leaders, religious leaders, Community Development Associations (CDAs), community leaders, political leaders, and community members. Security is paramount to everyone so people can close their eyes and sleep peacefully at night.”
Oluwakayode also acknowledged that the Amotekun Corps in Ogun State faces particular challenges and urged the state government to increase its support, especially in providing essential logistics like patrol vehicles and motorcycles, which are crucial for effective operations.
Oluwakayode also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
Assuring residents of the state of maximum security, Oluwakayode affirmed that the corps is on high alert across all local councils to prevent any incidents of violence or security breaches.
“If anyone notices something, they should quickly report it to any station nearby, whether it be the police, civil defence, Amotekun, vigilantes, or any street guard, so they can promptly intervene before it escalates.
He promised: “We will try our best to maintain peace in Ogun State and control any security issues.”
He also urged the public to remain supportive, law-abiding, and vigilant.
