Established by children of former Minister of Finance and National Planning and one-time Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, in his honor, the foundation will be officially launched on September 26 in Abuja, coinciding with the release of a book about his life.

Speaking with journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Chairman Planning Committee, Sadiq Usman, said a book titled, “Public Policy and Agent Interests: Perspectives from the Emerging World”, co-authored by Dr. Usman with other prominent Nigerians, would also be unveiled alongside the Foundation next month.

The Chairman named some of the contributors to the book including the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, former Statistician-General, National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Yemi Kale, and other seasoned technocrats.

He said proceeds of the book launch would be used solely to support the work of the foundation, stressing that the main focus of the AI centre would be skills development, innovation, and economic development.

“The foundation’s mission is to create a collaborative that empowers individuals, corporates, researchers, and students to explore and develop advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technological solutions for real-world challenges.

“Its signature project is the establishment of an AI and Technology Development Centre whose main focus will be skills development, innovation and economic development.  The foundation will be formally introduced at the event,” he said.

Usman pointed out that AI is essential for national advancement, and its implementation can help the country narrow the gap with more advanced nations and stay competitive globally.
