Rivers State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the abductors of Aribibia John Fubara, a director with the State Board of Internal Revenue Service.

Fubara was abducted on Saturday at about 8:20 p.m. at Okirika Waterfront, near the Marine Base area of Port Harcourt.

Confirming the development yesterday, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the command, said the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed tactical units to ensure the victim’s safe release.

She said: “A manhunt has been launched to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book.”

The victim’s younger brother, Emmanuel Fubara, told newsmen: “The incident happened on Saturday night, a few minutes after 8:00 p.m., at the Okirika waterside axis. He normally hangs out in the neighbourhood to relax and take a few bottles of beer; it has been like that over the years.

“Suddenly, some guys came with boats from the waterside jetty and walked directly to him (Fubara). Some persons who saw the gunmen started running helter-skelter for their safety because they were shooting rapidly into the air. After they left, people came out and discovered that it was my elder brother who was kidnapped and whisked away.”
