RTEAN unveils cashless payment application for travelers

The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), in collaboration with Sterling Bank and Wema Bank, has rolled out a new cashless payment application for travelers known as KarryGo to drive a seamless transaction process in the country.

The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), in collaboration with Sterling Bank and Wema Bank, has rolled out a new cashless payment application for travelers known as KarryGo to drive a seamless transaction process in the country.

The objective of KarryGo is to modernise the process for payment services across the country by offering a cashless solution that enhances convenience, security, and accountability.

The platform would reduce fraud, by generating electronic manifests during ticket and payment transactions. It also offers features like fast ticketing, non-Internet POS systems for remote areas, and instant e-receipts to eliminate the use of paper tickets.

Speaking on the key feature, the Regional Manager, KarryGo, Oluwabunmi Rasaki, said that the unique code will be generated for cashless transport payment, and the QR code is typically linked to the user’s payment method and can be scanned by the users or at a designated terminal to complete the transaction.

Rasaki noted that the QR code also can be obtained from the KarryGo application or website for instant and seamless payments for transportation services using the app.

According to her, the application also allows users to quickly and conveniently pay for their fares without needing cash, making the entire transportation process more efficient and convenient.

With instant transaction payment, users can simply tap their smartphone or scan a QR code to complete their payment, eliminating the hassle of handling physical money or waiting in line at ticket counters.

It also helps travellers to streamline operations for transportation providers by reducing queuing times and improving overall service efficiency, and process, making it faster and more convenient for users to complete their rides.

Recognising the challenges in remote areas, KarryGo incorporates non-internet Point of Sale (POS) systems that can function without an internet connection, ensuring accessibility even in less connected regions.

The platform allows passengers to pay for their journeys easily without the need for physical cash, reducing the risk of cash handling and loss. Speaking about the offering, the Deputy National President, RTEAN, Muhammad Abubakar, said that the KarryGo application would eliminate fraud and improve accountability in the transportation sector.

He said: “We are partnering with the Sterling Bank and Wema Bank to provide a seamless financial transaction process for the transiting Nigerians, in line with the present cashless policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
