Indigenes of Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, under the umbrella of the Osogbo Development Action Group (ODAG), have called on the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, to prevail on the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, to desist from encroaching on Osogbo land and making utterances that are capable of causing a communal clash.
Accusing the traditional ruler of the governor’s hometown of land expansionist moves and provocative utterances around Osogbo and Olorunda Local Government Area boundaries, the group claimed that Oba Lawal has been laying claims to some Osogbo land as belonging to the Ede people.
Responding to some documents circulating on social media containing survey plans, letters, and an invitation card to a purported coronation ceremony where the Ede monarch allegedly instructed Ajeniju of Hallelujah, Jelili Olaiya, to overlord landmarks belonging to Osogbo and Olorunda LGAs and further described the same as Ede Land Areas in Egbedore LGA, the group urged Governor Adeleke to urgently wade into the development and prevent possible security threats in the affected areas.
In a statement issued in Osogbo on Thursday by the group’s Coordinator, Ajani Lukman, and Secretary, Oladejo Shuaibu, the group noted that if nothing is done on the matter, “it would not do the state any good and would appear as if the governor is abusing his position as the governor to lord Ede over other towns in the state by encroaching on their lands, including Osogbo and Olorunda LGAs.”
