As the global population ages, the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias has skyrocketed, presenting an urgent public health challenge. Currently, an estimated 5.2 million people aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s, a number expected to more than double by 2050 if effective interventions are not found. This rise in cases places an immense strain on healthcare systems, caregivers, and society at large.

Research in aging and dementia is crucial not only to understanding the biological mechanisms that drive these conditions but also to developing effective prevention, treatment, and care strategies that are beneficial to all stakeholders. The complexity of Alzheimer’s disease, which involves a myriad of genetic, caregivers, environmental, and lifestyle factors, necessitates a multidisciplinary approach that Dr. Babalola is uniquely equipped to lead.

Dr. Babalola’s career, rooted in a commitment to public health, began at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Nigeria, where she earned her medical degree. After years of frontline medical practice, she pursued a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology at the University of Ilorin, where she conducted groundbreaking research on occupational health in resource-limited settings. She also pursued programs in Global Health Epidemiology from the University of Washington, USA where she was trained to identify, monitor, and quantify disease patterns and conditions that affect global health. Her early work laid a strong foundation for her later focus on geriatric mental health, particularly the complex interplay between aging and dementia.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Babalola join our team,” said Dr. Victor Lasebikan, the medical director of The Pizzaz Multispecialty Hospital. “Her profound understanding of aging and dementia research will enhance our ability to provide top-tier care and contribute significantly to the global body of knowledge on these conditions.”
