Founder and Group Managing Director of Custodian Investment Plc, Wole Oshin, has said the Custodian Mentorship Conference has mentored over 5,000 budding entrepreneurs since its launch in 2018.

He disclosed this at the sixth conference held in Lagos over the weekend, expressing the company’s joy in imparting knowledge to the youth.

“I did not have mentors to guide me, but I learned by observing those I admired,” Oshin said.

He explained that this formed the basis for creating a platform for successful professionals to share their experiences, noting that volunteers from the Custodian Group also help mentor participants after the conference.

“We aim to support our mentees beyond the programme, which is why we partnered with Alder Consulting knowing we could not do it alone,” he added.

CEO of the Custodian Social Responsibility Foundation (CSRF), Olubunmi Aderemi, noted that the conference is the brainchild of the foundation, which is an independent charitable organisation based in Lagos.

She listed recent projects by the CSRF to include the rehabilitation of two roads in Sabo, Yaba and support for flooding victims in Bodija, Ibadan, as well as the construction of a state-of-the-art Accident and Emergency Centre in Epe, Lagos.

This year’s conference featured three prominent speakers: comedian Atunyota Akpobome (Ali Baba), fashion entrepreneur Adenike Ogunlesi and Artiste Jude Abaga (MI).

Ali Baba encouraged mentees to discover their true selves, stressing that self-determination is crucial for success. He advised them to understand various dynamics for success, including education, goals and networking.

He listed other dynamics for success including the need to understand the society, family, friends, lifestyle and habits, financials, collaboration, competitors, wellness and fitness, social media, role models, being dynamic and adaptive as well as the need to be a mentor and light the way for others.

Ogunlesi urged participants to believe in the impossible and to take charge of their lives, stating: “Your life is your biggest investment.”
