The governorship campaign council of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for Oredo Local Council of Edo State, yesterday, said that its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, would record a landslide victory in the area, following the massive support the PDP enjoys in the local council.

The Chairman, Publicity Committee of the council, Crusoe Osagie, disclosed this to newsmen in Benin during a press briefing. Osagie, also the Special Adviser on Media Project to Governor Godwin Obaseki, described Ighodalo as the only viable candidate contesting in the September 21 poll.
“We are just waiting for the election day to deliver votes to Ighodalo.

“We are calling on other people in the three senatorial districts, the 18 local councils, to join us to do the right thing at the election. He also called on Edo people across the political divides to think and choose wisely by joining the PDP candidate.

“This is the time to put aside their party’s affiliations and bury primordial sentiments and support the candidate of PDP,” he said.

SIMILARLY, traders in the New Benin Market, yesterday, endorsed Ighodalo. The endorsement followed Ighodalo’s mid-morning visit to the market, which turned into a carnival-like show, as women danced to show their support to the candidate, who was accompanied by his wife, Ifeyinwa Ighodalo.

In his remarks, the Coordinator of the New Benin Market Christian Traders Fellowship, Ero Amienghomwan, introduced Ighodalo to the cheering crowd and prayed that by December 1, 2024, Ighodalo would be at Osadebey Avenue, the seat of Edo State Government.

HOWEVER, notable personalities in Edo State, including leaders of ethnic and youth groups, political parties, former council chairmen and past political appointees, at the weekend, resolved to build a united front for the September 21 governorship election.

They maintained that Edo is urgently in need of salvation, purposeful leadership and efficient government. The Edo elders said the eight years of wasted opportunities are enough, stressing that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, is a shining example of honesty, humility and quality leadership and will steer the state back to the path of progress.

The prominent men and women noted that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) government in the state is already heading for the rocks as a result of its parochialism, deceit and betrayal of the people’s mandate. They said: “The PDP lacks the justification and moral standing to continue in office. It has been an era of disappointment and unfulfilled promises.’’
