NNPP chieftain slams NNPC’s fuel price hike

A chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Olufemi Ajadi, has expressed outrage over the reported increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Ajadi’s anger was sparked after the NNPC raised the fuel price from N617 per litre to N897 per litre on Tuesday morning.

In his reaction, Ajadi called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene, urging him to rein in the NNPC. He emphasised that the lives of millions of Nigerians should not be at the mercy of a few individuals within the corporation.
Ajadi specifically criticised the current management of the NNPC, led by Mele Kyari, calling for its dissolution. He warned that the leadership harbours a “sinister agenda” that must be swiftly halted.
“I use this medium to call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call the NNPC to order. Oil is our inheritance, and few people who are currently managing the NNPC do not own our joint inheritance. So it should not be allowed to toy with our lives,” Ajadi said.

He continued, “President Tinubu should beware and checkmate the sinister agenda of Kyari-led NNPC. The management has turned itself to the owner of our crude oil and the refined products. Nigerians will not take that nonsense.”

Ajadi further urged the president to revert the pump price of PMS to its previous level, cautioning against the actions of those he described as “saboteurs” within the NNPC.
“Mr President, use your good offices to revert the pump price of PMS to its old price. Don’t allow saboteurs to tarnish your good image and that of your government,” he pleaded.

Ajadi also referenced President Tinubu’s history of protesting fuel price hikes, reminding him of the nationwide outcry when former President Goodluck Jonathan removed subsidies and raised the PMS price from N96 to about N180.
“You can remember, Mr President, when former President Goodluck Jonathan removed subsidy and increased PMS price from N96 to about N180, you and well-meaning Nigerians protested, why now killing price while you are in the helms of affairs,” he said.
In a final remark, Ajadi questioned the NNPC’s authority to raise fuel prices without consultation, calling on President Tinubu, as the Minister of Petroleum, to take immediate action.
“Who gave the NNPC power to unilaterally increase pump price of fuel? The President as Minister of Petroleum should act fast to save Nigeria from collapsing,” Ajadi stated.
