In commemoration of World Charity Day, some patients at the General Hospital Otu-Jeremi, in Ughelli South Local Government of Delta State, had their hospital bills paid off in a heartwarming display of generosity and kindness.

The donor, Emuoboh Gbagi, underscored the need for well-meaning Nigerians to develop the habit of giving back to society at all times.

The renowned entrepreneur, businessman, and philanthropist emphasised that the philanthropic gesture is not politically motivated but rather a consistent vision to give back to the community.

The United Nations sets aside September 5 yearly as the International Day of Charity to show charity and love to others, especially to the needy.

Emuoboh Gbagi’s kindness touched the lives of over 10 patients at Otu-Jeremi General Hospital on Charity Day, as he generously covered the cost of their medical treatment by paying off their outstanding bills.

Patients struggling with various health conditions, some awaiting surgery but delayed due to financial constraints, were overjoyed as Gbagi surprised them by settling their outstanding hospital bills, bringing an end to their prolonged hospital stay.

Speaking, the donor said that putting a smile on the faces of the needy is an act that should be regular, adding that the government cannot do it alone.

He appealed to Nigerians to love one another at all times, reminding everyone that it is the most important command from God.

“Nigerians who have the means should show acts of generosity to the less privileged and other vulnerable individuals at all times.

“Acts of giving embody our dedication to embracing the fundamental human values of empathy and unity, which define our shared humanity and connect us all,” he said.

Overjoyed patients thanked the donor with heartfelt prayers, seeking divine blessings for him and his loved ones in gratitude for his kindness.

One of them, Okubor Tega, who underwent breast surgery, thanked Emuoboh Gbagi for his acts of generosity. According to her, she felt relieved that a huge burden had been lifted from her.

Another patient, a middle-aged woman with a chronic leg ulcer, who simply gave her name as Ejiro, said: “God bless you for what you did for us. May God lift you higher and higher in Jesus’ name. I wanted to go and borrow money before to treat myself. But thank you for doing this.”

A tricycle operator who proudly displayed a tribute poster to the late Chief Kenneth Gbagi, father of Emuoboh Gbagi, on his vehicle received an unexpected surprise — a cash gift — as part of the charitable act.
