The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has ordered an immediate investigation into a recent social media video alleging that an FRSC staff member was involved in a physical altercation with a passenger over the steering wheel during an attempt to impound the vehicle of a traffic offender.
The Corps Marshal, expressing disappointment and concern over the incident, directed the Sector Commander responsible for the area where the incident occurred to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a report to the national headquarters within 48 hours.
According to the Corps Marshal, the FRSC is taking the allegation seriously and a detailed investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He noted: “From the preliminary investigation report forwarded to the Corps Marshal, the incident occurred along the Asaba-Ogwashi-Uku route within the Asaba Sector Command operational area on August 23, 2024.
“The vehicle, a Toyota Sienna bus, was flagged down by the patrol team for necessary checks. The driver was found guilty of operating a commercial vehicle without an installed speed-limiting device, a traffic offense that necessitates vehicle impoundment.
“In the attempt to carry out the impoundment, a woman, who was a passenger, struggled with the driver and refused to vacate the front seat for the arresting Marshal, as required for vehicle impoundment.
“To clarify, despite the dangerous manner in which the woman acted, which could have led to a crash, the Corps will ensure that rules of engagement are upheld. If the staff involved is found guilty, they will face disciplinary action in line with our zero-tolerance policy for misconduct.
“The Corps wishes to assure the public that it values their trust and confidence and will not condone any behaviour that compromises our integrity. We remain committed to providing excellent service, ensuring road safety, and upholding the highest standards of conduct among our personnel.
The Corps Marshal urged the public to report any instances of misconduct or unprofessional behaviour by FRSC staff through the FRSC Mobile Application or by calling 122 for immediate action.
