AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Super Eagles, Rwanda settle for 0-0 draw in Kigali

Nigeria’s Super Eagles settled for a 0-0 draw against the Amavubi of Rwanda in Kigali, their second Group D fixture of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers on Tuesday.

The Eagles went into the tie on the back of the 3-0 win against Benin Republic in Uyo on Saturday, while Rwanda held Libya to a 1-1 draw away.

The Eagles made just one change in their line-up with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru replacing Alex Iwobi.

After two games played the Eagles temporarily top Group D on four points while Rwanda are second on two points.

The Eagles next fixture is against Libya in Uyo on matchday 3 which comes up on October 6. The second leg against Libya comes up on October 14.

Portugal-based Bruno Onyeamachi had the first big chance as he went close in the 3rd minute but failed to connect with a cross from Ademola Lookman.

Few minutes later Rwanda’s Bonheur Mogisha was left unmarked inside the box but saw his header from a cross go just over the bar with the Eagles defenders left stranded.

In the 15th minute Lookman after drove into the opponent’s box but could not put the ball past the keeper.

On 22 minutes Lookman thought he had opened the scoring as he headed cross from Semi Ajayi but the referee disallowed it for a foul in the build up to the goal.

On 37 minutes Victor Boniface was was denied by the cross bar while Lookman’s follow up was cleared away.

Moses Simon, who came on early in the second half went close on 55 minutes after he was played through on goal but the keeper rushed out to block his effort away for a comer.

In the 84th minute Ola Aina drove into the Rwanda area but his attempted cross was blocked away to safety.

Few minutes later Aina went on a solo run but saw his shot punched away, seconds later Lookman attempted volley was also saved by the keeper.

In stoppage time Osimhen almost won it but his header off a cross was well saved by the keeper.
